During the Kavango West state of the region address (Sora) this month, Ausiku said unemployment amongst youth in the region is worrisome, and will need collective effort to be addressed.
The statistic is based on the latest figures from the National Statistics Agency (NSA).
With the negative impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the economy of the country, unemployment increasing is an imminent threat.
Some progress
Ausiku said they have established youth enterprises in eight constituencies, which are programmes under the Harambee Prosperity Plan aimed at reducing youth unemployment.
She added that all applications were submitted to the sport, youth and national service ministry for further processing.
Meanwhile, the construction of the Nkurenkuru Multi-Purpose Youth Resource Centre has commenced and the fencing off of the area has been completed, however, the actual construction has been put on hold due to budgetary constraints.
“However, the region is happy to learn that the ministry will fill the vacancy of sports officer to start with sport activities.
We are at the same time appealing to private companies towards sponsorship for the development of our youth in the region,” Ausiku said.
