A group of 76 learners from two schools in the Ohangwena Region benefited from a donation of uniforms from Standard Bank Namibia valued at N$20 000.

The learners used to go to school without uniforms at Onehova Primary School in the Omundaungilo constituency and Haindongo Primary School in the Eenhana Constituency.

The majority of the learners are from the marginalised group of San communities.

The donation was made through the newly established Ohangwena Feminist Forum, an organisation established to educate and motivate women in Ohangwena.

The organisation also aims to support and help people in need and ensure gender equality in society.

Ploughing back

Handing over the donation, Standard Bank Namibia branch manager for Oshikango, Eenhana and Okongo, Joseph Tuzembeho, said it is part of their corporate social responsibility to plough back into the community.

"As part of our marketing strategies, Standard Bank Namibia will continue helping the Namibia child in all spheres of life. Education is the key to success and we are calling on the beneficiaries to take good care of their uniforms," he said.

The donation was received by the Ohangwena education director Isak Hamatwi, who applauded the bank for their good deed.

"I am urging you, Standard Bank Namibia, to keep the torch burning by investing in the Namibian child. I also thank the Ohangwena Feminist Forum for a good initiative which aims to restore the dignity of the neediest school-going children," Hamatwi said.

The donated uniforms included school shoes, shirts, skirts, stockings and trousers.
